Jamiat demands immediate action against BJP MLAs for inciting violence
New Delhi, October 8, 2024: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani has written to BJP President JP Nadda and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding immediate disciplinary and legal action against BJP MLAs Nand Kishore Gurjar (Loni, Ghaziabad) and Dr. Shalabh Mani Tripathi (Deoria) for their recent inflammatory remarks. The organization also reiterated its call for the arrest and punishment of Yati Narsinghanand, who is accused of delivering blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In his letter, Maulana Madani condemned the provocative statements made by the two BJP legislators, describing their remarks as "adding fuel to fire”. He emphasized that these statements, coming at a time when public sentiment is already deeply hurt due to Narsinghanand’s derogatory comments, could further destabilize peace and harmony in the region.
Maulana Madani expressed concern over Mr. Nand Kishore Gurjar's call for the police to open fire on protesters and his suggestion that those not arrested should be "killed in encounters." The MLA’s defense of Narsinghanand's hateful speech, claiming it was made "in anger," was also criticized. Dr. Shalabh Tripathi’s similar provocative remarks, which were posted on X (formerly Twitter), have further aggravated the situation.
“These are not mere political statements; they are threats to the peace and unity of our country. It is the government's responsibility to address the concerns of the people and ensure justice, but instead, we are witnessing calls for violence from such elected representatives," said Maulana Madani.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has already taken legal steps against Narsinghanand, including filing multiple FIRs across various states. Despite these efforts, no arrest has been made yet. “It is disheartening to see some BJP MLAs supporting a figure like Narsinghanand, whose actions are bringing disgrace to the country," Maulana Madani added.
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind’s General Secretary, Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi, has also submitted a complaint to the Ghaziabad Police Commissioner, urging the registration of an FIR against Gurjar. The complaint cites the MLA’s history of making inflammatory remarks, including his controversial slogan during the 2022 assembly elections.
The complaint demands action under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, particularly Sections 196(a), 197(c) & (d), and 352, for promoting enmity between religious groups and inciting communal discord.
